Texas A&M University’s Transportation Services formally opened Polo Road Garage Saturday, Aug. 15, offering almost 1,700 additional parking spaces on the northeast side of campus.
“We are excited to have this state-of-the-art parking facility open and available for use by our community before the fall semester begins,” said Transportation Services Associate Vice President Peter Lange.
“We are confident Polo Rd. Garage is the next step in delivering the ultimate parking experience to our customers and are thankful to our project partners for their work in making it possible:
Spawglass (general contractor), PGAL (design firm), technology partners, T2 Systems, Parking Guidance Systems, LLC and Genetec,
the Office of the University Architect and Texas A&M University System Facilities, Planning and Construction (project management).”
The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approved the Polo Rd. Garage project in January 2019. Construction for the project began in March 2019.
The newly constructed Polo Rd. Garage includes 1,680 parking spaces on five parking levels (including rooftop parking) for use by students, faculty, staff and visitors.
It has cutting-edge parking guidance, license plate recognition and payment technology and is located to serve the densely populated northeast corner of campus.
In coordination with this project, Polo Rd. is being renovated to realign and add lanes to the roadway and to improve lighting, drainage and landscaping.
The Polo Rd. Garage is the second garage on campus to be outfitted with parking guidance technology.
The red and green space indicators provide customers with information about occupied or available parking spots.
Additional features include emergency campus blue light phones on every level, glass enclosed elevators and stair towers,
energy-efficient LED lighting, 12-foot floor-to-ceiling height with 8’2” vehicle clearance, adjacent bike parking, electric vehicle charging (coming soon) and a curb-free experience throughout the garage.
Construction continues on the attached building, which includes space for five dining concepts,
the Polo Rd. Rec Center and Transportation Services offices. These operations are scheduled to open for business after the first of the year.
